Feng Shui Ninjas – Bloody Valentines at the Varsity!
We're returning to the Varsity Theater for another show on friday Jan 29. Apparently, they didn't learn better the first time. With Valentine's Day coming up, we're planning a healthy dose of romance along with our usual murder and mayhem. Tickets are available online from Afton, the promoters who made it possible. And again, please buy your tickets online ASAP, because the sooner we sell 20+ tickets, the sooner we get locked into the time slot we want.

No Mercy Christmas at the Varsity RAWKED!
We had a great time at the Varsity Theater show last night. Thanks to Afton Shows for inviting us, and to Silverness, Sleeper and the Sleepless, Astral Ward, and the other bands and people who made it possible - most of all our fans, who braved the winter to come share a little holiday cheer with us.

No Mercy Christmas makes the news!
There's an article today in The Examiner about our No Mercy Christmas Tour! Thanks to Monica for the great writeup, and as always, we're happy for media coverage that doesn't involve search warrants. Among other things, the article says:
The Feng Shui Ninjas' website tell us that they are "rearranging the furniture between your ears." They do this well. The Feng Shui Ninjas often take a standard and transform it into something unique that is difficult to discern an original from a cover.
The holiday season only brings more joy to the band as they embark on their 2nd annual No Mercy Christmas Tour. Favorite yuletide carols are not sacred, though the Feng Shui Ninjas say that they tend to stick with traditional melodies that have "a body count."

Eagles Club show rescheduled
Just so you know, our upcoming show at the St Paul Eagles Club, originally scheduled for Dec 5, has been moved to Dec 12. But it's still the No Mercy Christmas Tour, so you can expect our usual dose of carnage and horror for the holidays!
And this year, the No Mercy Christmas Tour is a TOUR! Besides the Eagles Club on Dec 12, we're playing the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on Dec 17, and Coffee Grounds in Falcon Heights on Jan 2. Anyone who attends all three shows will get a special present from the band. Be afraid.

Varsity Theater show!
The Feng Shui Ninjas will be playing at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on thursday, Dec 17, in a show sponsored by Afton Twin Cities. Tickets can be purchased from Afton online. This is a new promoter for us, so good sales and a good turnout are hugely important. So please, buy a ticket (or two or three or a hundred) and come out!
We're treating this as an extension of our No Mercy Christmas Tour II, and will be doing at least a couple of holiday-themed songs. If you want to hear more, come to our show at the St Paul Eagles Club on Dec 5 as well!

This show goes to 11!
We're looking forward to our upcoming show at Convergence this friday, July 3 at 7pm, and hope to see anyone bothering to read this there! And our show is part of a special three-band sequence called This Show Goes to 11. It starts at 7pm with the Feng Shui Ninjas, followed by Beth Kinderman & the Player Characters at 8:30, and finally Possible Oscar at 10pm.
Anyone who stays for all three shows gets a special cd of previously unreleased (or quasi-unreleased) music by all three bands!

New song, and news!
Last night, we wrote and recorded a new song. Sorry (now renamed Eponymous #1). There will be a nicer recording for the next album, but this is good enough to get the idea. This rough recording is going to the FuMP, because well, it's good enough.
Dave Romm wrote this very nice review of Garbage Pizza. From the end of his review:
Garbage Pizza falls neatly into the category of "Uncategorizable". If you liked Songs In The Key of Z or Hawkwind or Renaldo and the Loaf , you're a very strange person and might like the Feng Shui Ninjas. It's easier to say what they're not than what they are, but I like the CD. Recommended for everyone who wants to try something a little different, that takes you to a slightly odd place, a place where you get to rewrite the ending.
And finally, we have another show on the docket. On thursday, July 30, we're returning to the Terminal Bar, with Beth Kinderman and the Player Characters (performing in support of their soon-to-be-new album Apocalypse Blues).
ps: We're also playing at Convergence on friday, July 3 at 7pm. It's an all-fannish music night with us, followed by Beth Kinderman and the Player Characters, and then Possible Oscar! Come see all three concerts!

Don’t Worry, Be Happy – Marscon 2009
What can I say? We had a blast. Our Mainstage performance was at 4pm saturday afternoon, right after the incredible MC Lars. There were some technical issues getting sound set up, so we launched into it unamplified with an improvised "mic check" of Coulton's re: Your Brains. Then we went on to our regular set - Writing a Book, Video Killed the Radio Star, The Beaver Song, Peach Cobbler, Fruity Oaty Bars, The Rainbow Song, and Greensleeves. It went well, and quickly.
Our next show was at the appalling hour of 1am saturday night, at the Space Oddity room party. We were feeling pretty punchy by then and went for it without a setlist, and refusing to play our "hits" like Writing a Book and Greensleeves. I have no idea what all we played, but people seemed to like it!
Sunday afternoon was the Dementia Smackdown. We performed Don't Worry Be Happy as a minor key dirge, with John riffing jokes in a Russian accent ("In communist Russia, Oscar possibles YOU!"), and Beth Kinderman and Nikki Walker from the Player Characters singing backup. Before the performance, I ran into the All-Powerful Nateboi in the hall and told him he had to come perform with us, but I wouldn't tell him what song we were doing - just that he'd receive a "phone call" in the middle of the set and he had to answer it. The "phone call" was to a suicide hotline - "Help me, I'm sad!" He told me to shut up and quit being so emo. At the end of the show, he declared he couldn't take the emo anymore, and shot himself in the head with a dart gun. It was brilliant! And it felt so much like the Feng Shui Ninjas, too... risky and wildly improvised.
